With a firm belief in a network of women as one of the most
powerful forces in nature,
Kimberly Danek
Pinkson was inspired to found the
EcoMom Alliance in the Fall of
2006 after co-producing an event for the United Nations World
Environment Day and watching the positive results among her
mom-friends.
With the passionate commitment of a core team and hundreds of
EcoMom Community Leaders, it quickly went from visionary idea to
global movement. Inspired by social entrepreneurs and Nobel Peace
Prize winners Muhammad Yunus and Wangari Maathai – and with
consistent feedback from other EcoMoms around the world - Kimberly
quickly realized EcoMom had the potential to become a model of
business for an environmentally, socially and economically
sustainable future: a hybrid enterprise bringing together the best
qualities of both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.
The result, a non-profit organization and a business, each anchored
by two key principles, 1) the indigenous understanding that we are
all connected, and 2) the belief that women hold both the
inspiration and power to lead positive change. In 2008,
Chrise de Tournay
Birkhahn stepped up as the Alliance’s first
Executive Director and
Jenny Orser joined forces with Kimberly as
Co-Founder of EcoMom, Inc.
Nicole MacNaughton, wears many hats as
Director of Special Projects - and she is Kimberly's sister.
