Sponsoring a Congolese
woman is another crucial way that
EcoMom members can become more directly
involved with providing support and a sustainable future for
victims of the conflict. Through our partnership with
Women for Women International, a
non-profit group with on-the-ground operations in the conflict area
of Congo,
EcoMom members
can donate money that will underwrite housing and job skills
training for a specific woman. The opportunity to correspond, offer
support and hope, and share in a Congolese woman's recovery is
memorable and powerful experience.
$324 will underwrite a one-year
sponsorship for one woman. There is a one-time fee of $30 to
establish the sponsorship (total amount $354). The process of
matching sponsors with the recipients takes about 4 - 6 weeks.
There are two ways to establish sponsorships:
Individual Sponsorships:
EcoMom will complete the
transaction and forward you contact information on the woman you
are sponsoring. The full amount is payable by check to
EcoMom via US Post, or by direct
electronic donation on our website. Please specifiy the amount and
details of how many women you are sponsoring, and for how many
years.
Group Sponsorships: Many of
our members who host a house screening, or convene
EcoMom gatherings in their communities,
have decided to collectively sponsor one or more women. Typically,
the group will decide how many women to support, and for how long,
and each member contributes an even percentage of the total cost.
In this case,
EcoMom
requests
only one check or
donation for the full amount. We cannot accept multiple
checks for one woman, but can receive a separate check for each
sponsorship. Your group can decide among itself who can best
collect the money and handle making the total payment to
EcoMom. We will then send
you information on the recipients of your sponsorship(s).
